The moment your young children hit the door, the very first thing they in all likelihood want is a little something to munch on. Following a long day at school their bodies and minds are craving energy. But whatever you give young kids after school can make a huge difference in just how fit and active they are.
A large number of parents give their children food products along the lines of cookies and packaged foods. Although these provide fast energy, they’re certainly not the best option for your youngster. As an alternative to high calorie, high fat goodies you need to focus on food items that will offer very good nourishment to your young child.
Vegetables. If you keep fresh vegetables chopped up and readily available all the time, it’s easy to give your children a serving after school. Try chopping up carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, and celery and keeping them inside the refrigerator. You could also have a vegetable dip ready in case your youngsters don’t really like eating vegetables without any dressing.
Fresh fruits. Fruit can be another great snack food for kids after school. Keeping oranges, pears, strawberries, peaches, and plums stocked inside your refrigerator will give young children an opportunity to eat these healthy snacks. When you get home from the supermarket, wash your fruit straight away and place it in a bowl where your children can have quick access to it.
All-natural Snack foods. The best snacks are those items that you'll find in nature. You could also offer your kids nuts, popcorn, dried fruit, string cheese, yogurt, and milk as a snack.
The general rule of thumb for after school snacks should be to opt for those which are natural and not processed. Stay away from added sugar and fat. You will also want to restrict foods which are full of synthetic ingredients and additional coloring.
Dipping fruits or veggies in peanut butter is an excellent way to help your sons or daughters relish their flavor without including unhealthy calories.
Sadly, a number of snacks which are marketed for children aren’t the most desirable things for them. As a parent, you’ll need to be careful to be sure your young ones are eating foods that are healthy for them.
